Airdrie's downtown offers a number of exciting development opportunities. With a flourishing retail trade, growing population and new residential developments, downtown is the place to be!
Downtown Plan
In 2008, City Council approved an updated Airdrie Downtown Plan (PDF, large file). The plan sets out the vision for a lively, dynamic city centre.
Downtown Vision: Live, Work and PlayDowntown Airdrie will become the retail, office, financial and entertainment centre of the City. Development in the downtown will create a friendly multi-functional pedestrian environment where building and site design combined with street furniture, landscaping and economic activity invite residents and visitors into the area. |
New Developments
A number of new developments and redevelopments have occurred in the downtown over the past two years, including:
- Major expansion and renovation of Towerlane Mall, downtown's premier shopping centre, including a Staples store, new TD Bank building, expanded retail space
- 17,000 sq foot Shopper's Drug Mart store
- Renovation to Main Street Centre strip mall adding more and updated retail space.
- Bank of Montreal building construction.
- Smith's Crossing - 18 unit condominium building, with three commercial spaces at street level
Proposed Developments
Several major new developments have been proposed for downtown Airdrie, including:
- Creekside Crossing – 20 acre site, anchored by a Sobey's Grocery store. View the Concept Plan and Supporting Report
- 18,700 sq ft Shopper's Drug Mart store, adjacent to a 30,000 sq ft medical centre.
