Description:
The Airdrie Environmental Advisory Board advises Council in the design and promotion of practical programs to enhance Airdrie's environment. The Board is responsible for providing advice on environmental programs with the primary objective of reducing the amount of solid waste and development of environmental policies, procedures and educational programs. The Board also reviews potential projects that could either directly, or indirectly enhance Airdrie's environment.
Term:
Members are appointed on an annual basis by Council at the organizational meeting held in October of each year.
Meetings:
Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in Environmental Education Centre. Meetings are usually 1-2 hours in length.

Issues Dealt with Over the Past Year:
These include the finalizing of the Residential Pickup RFP, initiating a Plastics Collection Pilot Study, formalizing the Toilet Replacement Program to a full time program, and initiating Bio-Engineering Workshops for Nose Creek Riparian areas. There was continued effort towards the Nose Creek Watershed Water Management Plan stakeholders input.
Issues for the Coming Year:
These include education and advertising of the community-wide recycling program, working towards a Calgary Regional Compost Solution; a greater presence by staff in the community with respect to the environment; review and discussion of alternative methods for disposing of sanitary waste; Nose Creek Watershed Partnership. Review the feasibility and practicality of endorsing the Plastics Collection Pilot Study to a full time program.
