Description:
The City of Airdrie Library Board has full management and control of the municipal library to organize, promote and maintain comprehensive and efficient library services in the municipality. The Board determines the objectives for the library that are appropriate to the needs of the community and re-examines them periodically. The Board develops policies governing library services, programs and the operation of the library in consultation with the Library Director.
Term:
Members are appointed for a three year period and may sit for a maximum of three terms
Meetings:
Meetings are held monthly on the last Tuesday excepting December at 7:00 p.m. in the Airdrie Public Library. The Board meets once during the summer months to review the upcoming budget. Meetings are usually 2-3 hours in length. The Board has sub-committees that meet on an as required basis.

Issues Dealt with Over the Past Year:
At the end of 2009, the
Airdrie Public Library received a Community Initiatives Program grant to install self check-out, security gates and RFID in the Library. New shelving and furniture was added to the Children's area. A computer management system was developed and implemented by information services staff. Video conference equipment provided in 2009 through a RISE grant administered by Marigold Library System has been promoted in the community.
Issues for the Coming Year:
Significant increases in cardholders, circulation, program attendance, and reference requests continues. The Board will continue to work with the City on addressing the need for a new facility. A renovation of the staff work area is being planned for 2010 and early 2011.
