2007 Municipal Election Results

All City of Airdrie Council incumbents were re-elected for another term in the 2007 Municipal Election. The Alderman with the most votes was Shawn Howard. The current Mayor of Airdrie, Linda Bruce, was the only candidate for the mayoral position and received no challengers. Bruce was acclaimed and a total of nine candidates ran for the available six Airdrie Aldermanic positions.

Results are as follows:

  • Shawn Howard = 1,851
  • Marlene Weaver = 1,688
  • Kelly Hegg = 1,677
  • Glenda Alexander = 1,662
  • Fred Burley = 1,624
  • Richard Siemens = 1,618
  • Milton Friesen = 1,012
  • Taylor Farthing = 908
  • Trevor D. Grieve = 788

Voter turnout was approximately 12 percent. A total of 2,628 residents came out to vote from an estimated 21,723 eligible voters.

Three voting locations were open in Airdrie from 6:30 am – 8 pm. In order to vote, residents had to be:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • A Canadian citizen
  • A resident of Alberta for at least six consecutive months
  • A resident of Airdrie on Election Day 

 

2004 Results

  • The 2004 Municipal Election was held on October 18, 2004.
  • The election saw three mayoral candidates and 13 Aldermanic candidates.
  • Voter turnout of 31 per cent.
  • Linda Bruce won the Mayor's Chair with 2,632 votes.
  • The top Aldermanic vote getter was Fred Burley with 3,091 votes and following was Marlene Weaver with 2,994 votes, Richard Siemens with 2,901 votes, Shawn Howard with 2,679 votes, Glenda Alexander with 2,125 votes and Kelly Hegg with 2060 votes.
  • The election also included a vote to ban smoking from all public areas, including bars, restaurants and gaming establishments.
