Inspection Process

To ensure quality infrastructure, engineering services conducts regular inspections and site visits throughout construction on all new infrastructure within the City.

When construction is completed, we then issue two certificates:

Construction Completion Certificate (CCC)

  1. After construction, a mutual inspection including the developer’s representative and the City of Airdrie is conducted to ensure that the infrastructure is substantially complete.
  2. A submission is made to the City for each utility, which includes all of the information found on the CCC checklist.
  3. When all supporting documents are received and all deficiencies are addressed then the CCC is approved and the maintenance period for the utility begins.

Final Acceptance Certificate (FAC)

  1. Near the expiry of the maintenance period another mutual inspection is completed including the City of Airdrie, the developer’s representative and the contractor to identify any deficiencies.
  2. A submission is made to the City for each utility which includes the information found on the FAC checklist.
  3. Once all deficiencies have been corrected and the FAC submission is complete the FAC’s are released and the City of Airdrie will take over the maintenance of the utility.

Certificates will not be processed until all supporting documents are received and all inspections are complete to the satisfaction of the City.

Road and Lane Closures/Detours
When a contractor must cross an existing roadway or disrupt the normal traffic pattern, a Traffic Accommodation Strategy (TAS) must be submitted to Engineering Services for review and approval. The TAS should be submitted a minimum of two weeks prior to the construction.

The TAS must include:

  1. Work zone signage plan
  2. Plan to mitigate pedestrian traffic
  3. Procedure for dealing with emergency vehicles
  4. Work zone location
  5. Schedule for rehab of roadway and walkways
  6. Schedule including start and end dates/times
  7. Any special circumstances

A pre and post site inspection will be required and the site will be visited during crossing activity for safety and compliance inspection.
