Yankee Valley Boulevard Sound Wall
MSI Funded Amount: $1,214,562
Total Projected Cost: $1,495,000
This project consists of construction of a sound fence along the north side of Yankee Valley Blvd. The project will tie into the existing sound fence near Highway 2 to the CPR tracks and is approximately 1,000 metres in length. The intent would be to match the design of the adjacent Highway 2 concrete sound wall. The sound fence is required to meet the future noise reduction demands as a result of significantly increased traffic volumes on Yankee Valley Blvd (YVB). The YVB interchange anticipated completion date is the fall of 2010. From a sequencing perspective, the sound fence improvement would be compatible with the new highway infrastructure improvements.
Replacement of Fire Pumper
MSI Funded Amount: $810,000
Total Projected Cost: $810,000
The current pumper has been in service for the last twenty years. It is important to continue to update equipment in order to meet the service levels required to meet increased volumes. The current pumper has become less reliable due to its age and parts are difficult to come by. A newer pumper is up to date with the latest safety requirements, especially in the areas of apparatus layout for intended role, vehicle lighting, reflective striping, storage, safety and crash testing requirements, and performance requirements. The current unit will fall short over time and will not be capable of meeting the requirements of Transport Canada and NFPA. A new pumper is outfitted with a Vehicle Data Recorder box which allows vehicle performance to be downloaded and evaluated.
Parks/Public Works Facility & Fleet Bay
MSI Funded Amount: $1,951,021
Total Projected Cost: $1,951,021
The expanded fleet bays will provide for the following:
• 3 additional repair bays of 25 X 40 feet
• 2 additional bays of 25 X 80 feet (one with an in-floor servicing pit, one with a wash bay)
One of the 80 foot bays is designed with a pit to assist in working safely under vehicles. The other 80 foot bay will be able to be used as a repair and wash bay. This will allow for better facilities to work on City owned vehicles. It is estimated that the expansion would meet the requirements of Fleet for approximately a 15 year timeframe, including the accommodation of some anticipated larger fire apparatus that cannot be serviced within the existing facility. Currently there are four mechanics and three bays (one of which is a shared wash bay) in the main Fleet facility. The size of the Fleet has increased by approximately 2.5 times over the last ten year period with no accompanying increase in the number of Fleet bays. Assuming a 2.5 times increase in Fleet size and the number of bays over the next 10 years, this would equate to the need for approximately 8 bays in total (3 existing plus 5 additional).
