Annual Smoke Alarm Program

Residents of Ridgegate, Edgewater, Summerhill and Waterstone may get a knock on their door from a member of the Airdrie Fire Department as a part of the annual Smoke Alarm Program. As part of the program, firefighters go door to door in selected neighbourhoods each year to check residents smoke alarms and batteries and talk to them about fire safety. Neighbourhoods are chosen each year based on the age of the homes. Smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years, so homes 10 years and older are chosen for the checks.

The 2012 Smoke Alarm Program is made possible with the support of Fortis Alberta. 

Firefighters will be wearing Airdrie Fire Department uniforms and driving marked vehicles.

Red Deer to Provide Airdrie Fire Department Dispatch Services

As of November 16, 2011, the City of Red Deer 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Centre will provide 9-1-1 call answer and fire dispatch service for the Airdrie Fire Department.  Citizens will not experience any change to accessing emergency assistance, simply dial 9-1-1 as always. 

The City of Red Deer was the successful bidder in a service proposal and will provide excellent 9-1-1 response for our City. Its software is directly compatible with our Fire Department's meaning information will go directly into our system, providing faster information with less chance of data errors. 

The City of Airdrie's current provider, the City of Calgary's Public Safety Communication Centre's, contract expired and it was determined an investigation into the best solution for Airdrie should be sought. The City of Red Deer's technology, service standards and cost efficiencies fit Airdrie's needs well.
