What is the program?

The purpose of the program is to connect local businesses with local experts to:

  • Introduce businesses to the professional resources available locally.
  • Educate business owners about how working with business professionals can benefit their business.

"When I attended the program, I was in the process of starting up my business and had many questions. Being able to have a one-on-one conversation with an ‘Airdrie Expert’ allowed for all my questions to be answered and gave me a clear vision of what I needed to do, to get my business up an running. Now that I’m operational, I look forward to making use of the program again."

Owner, Wilk’s Booth

How does it work?

Airdrie entrepreneurs, prospective and current business owners, and managers can sign up for a free 20-minute confidential consultation with a local expert.

This is your opportunity to ask a professional questions about operating your business. There is no obligation to purchase future services from the professional.

Who are the experts?

The Airdrie Experts are volunteers from the local business community who have met the criteria for the program. They work in professional service firms in Airdrie that specialize in working with small and home-based businesses.

What kind of questions can I ask?

Feel free to ask any business-related question that is specific to the professional you are meeting with. Examples could include:

  • Should I and how do I incorporate my business? (lawyer or accountant)
  • Do I need to charge GST? (accountant)
  • How do I know I'm meeting my business goals? (business coach)
  • What do I need to approach a bank for a loan? (finance)
  • Payroll questions (accountant)
  • Do I need a succession plan? (business coach)
  • I want to grow out of my home, how can I afford it? (finance)

To see more discussion/question ideas, visit The Business Link Guest Advisor Program (after which our program was modelled).

Are home-based businesses eligible?

Of course! All of the experts have experience working with home-based businesses and understanding their needs.

Will the Expert answer my question?

The Experts will do their best to answer your question, however keep in mind the time frame is only 20 minutes. It may not be possible to get into in-depth details.

Participants can expect the Experts to share information about how their profession can help your business succeed; they may not necessarily be able to provide you with an on-the-spot solution.

Are the sessions confidential?

Absolutely! The Experts have all signed confidentiality agreements with Airdrie Economic Development. They are also bound by the professional standards of their professional associations.

A participant is under no obligation to purchase services from the Experts.
