The Animal Protection Act requires pet owners to provide adequate food, shelter and water for their pets at all times. This is crucial during periods of extreme heat or cold. Airdrie Municipal Enforcement is requested to investigate complaints of neglect or suffering of animals.
If entry to your property is required when investigating complaints, officers will advise you of our attendance. You will receive notice if any violation of this act is identified. Pets will not be seized unless a strong case for medical attention is warranted.
Children and the family pet . . . Conflict?!
Accidents occur when small children are requested to walk dogs which are beyond their ability to control. Parents should be aware of both the child's limitations and the nature of the pet. Remember your ability to control a misbehaving pet may be impaired when owners are on bicycles or rollerblades. Children may require guidance and assistance when learning to control your family pet.
What about the cats?
The City of Airdrie does not currently have a Cat Bylaw or legislation pertaining to the care and control of these pets. If you are experiencing difficulty with respect to stray cats in your yard, may we suggest the following options:

If you have lost your dog or found a lost dog you can visit PetLynx.net to see if the owner is looking for the animal or file your own Lost Report. In Airdrie, please contact Municipal Enforcement at (403) 948-8892, Monday-Friday 7 a.m. -9 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. -7 p.m.; after hours leave a detailed voicemail and your call will be returned. Community Peace Officers will handle lost dogs 6:30 a.m. – 9 p.m. weekdays and 6:30 a.m.- 6:30 p.m. on weekends. Lost dogs will be handled by RCMP officers after hours. If the dog has City of Calgary dog tags, call the City of Calgary City Services at 311. They are available 24/7.
In the MD of Rockyview:
