Seasonal Tips

Spring

School Zones and Playground Zones:

  • Be aware many more children are outside not only during school hours but later in the evenings and on weekends.
  • Drivers - take your time, obey all signage and be aware of your surroundings.
  • Be aware of children or pets around the vehicle who could dart out into traffic.
  • Children - do not run onto the roadway for any reason.
  • Pedestrians - Use the crosswalks. Ensure all drivers have stopped before stepping out onto the roadway. Be safe and enjoy the weather.

Bicycle Safety:

The Traffic Safety Act requires ALL persons 18 years or under to wear an approved bicycle helmet. For safety, we encourage the following of all cyclists:

  • Always wear a helmet.
  • Use appropriate hand signals and warning bells wherever possible.
  • Always dismount and walk your bike when crossing roadways.
  • Keep right on pathways and always give pedestrians the right of way.
  • Whenever possible, avoid riding your bike on busy thoroughfares.

Fall

It is time to be aware that schools are back in session and drivers need to be aware of the school zones and times.  Community sports programs are also back in session so be aware of playground zones as well.

Snow Removal Reminder To Residents

  • Please remember it is the responsibility of the owner or occupier of property within Airdrie to ensure that all sidewalks adjacent to his/her property are cleared of snow and ice.
  • This removal must be completed within forty-eight (48) hours following the last snow fall.
  • Please be aware snow or ice from your sidewalk or driveway cannot be deposited onto City roadways or public places.
  • Please be considerate of your neighbours, as walking is the only means of transportation for some people.

Contact Airdrie Municipal Enforcement at (403) 948-8892 if you have concerns about snow-covered or icy sidewalks.

Year Round

Fire Lanes:

  • Please be aware Fire Lanes are for emergency vehicle movement in and around public sites.
  • Without a designated area, significant delays could occur with respect to a fire or medical emergency.
  • Local enforcement crews will be increasing their presence at public sites. Violators may be ticketed and/or towed away.

Handicap Stalls:

  • As per the Alberta Government's Placard Disabilities Policy, the placard must be hung from the vehicle's rear-view mirror with the registration number and expiry date visible from outside the vehicle.
  • These placards and stalls are designated to allow handicapped persons easier access to public facilities.
  • Be courteous. Violators will be ticketed and/or towed.
