Airdrie Horticulture Society

Want to learn more about gardening? The Airdrie Horticultural Society (AHS) is a non-profit organization whose goals are to promote the knowledge and enjoyment of gardening, and to improve community relationships through horticulture. Join the society and learn the many aspects and variations of gardening and landscaping through informative speakers and hands on workshops. The society coordinates community projects including the community garden, a children's garden and growing food for the Airdrie Food Bank. Our members are also involved with the Canada Day Parade and the Airdrie Home and Garden Fair.

  • When: Meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the third Wednesday of the month of September through June. In July and August, local garden tours are planned.
    •    Come and listen to guest speakers on topics such as: pruning, using edible flowers and water-wise gardens.
  • Location: Alberta Agriculture Building, 97 East Lake Ramp NE, Airdrie

  • Sign up for workshops throughout the year including: willow furniture and planters

Membership includes discounts at participating local nurseries and an informative monthly newsletter.
Membership fee: $20/individual, $25/family or $15/senior

 How can you as individuals or families contribute?

  • Join the Airdrie Horticultural Society
  • Volunteer an hour or two at the Airdrie Community Garden
  • Plant a tree or shrubs
  • Plant a vegetable garden
  • Set up rain barrels to collect water from your eaves-troughs
  • Become involved in the Nose Creek Clean Up, every June
  • Don't litter; pick up any litter you may see
  • If you or a group is interested in beautifying our city, pick an area and call the Parks Department to arrange for garbage bags and pick up of full bags.
  • As a community, Adopt-a-Park or flowerbed(s)
  • Plant a row, grow a row for the Airdrie Food Bank
  • Recycle, Reduce, Reuse - Stop by the ECO Centre at the Recycling Depot to obtain information on Recycling and Composting.
  • Rake and compost lawn clippings
  • Children can help through schools or youth organizations with environmental programs to plant trees/gardens and to clean-up the school yard
  • Water your trees
  • Set-up a birdbath
  • Pick a weed
Novice gardeners are welcome! NO green thumb necessary!
