Maintenance

The City of Airdrie Parks Department maintains all of the City parks and the pathway system. This includes pathway snow removal, cutting the grass, weed and pest control.

The maintenance priorities have three levels:

1. First priority: Level S - Sports Fields
Level S areas are considered first priority and come before Level A, B and C.

  • High use facilities.
  • Are comprised of sports fields and ball diamonds.
  • The irrigation systems provide complete coverage of turf areas.
  • Non-irrigated sports fields may also be included in this level.

2. Second priority: Level A
Level A areas are high use facilities and parks that are neighbourhood, regional or community oriented.

  • High use facilities.
  • Horticultural and landscape features requiring higher level of maintainance.
  • May have fully automatic irrigation systems capable of complete coverage of turf.

3. Third Priority: Level B
These parks often receive a high amount of use with limited horticultural features (trees, shrub beds) not requiring as much maintainence.

4. Fourth Priority: Level C

  • Areas that are not included in Level A, Level B or Level S. Parks in this category generally have a low maintenance turf program.
  • Often a native grass species that is coarse and sparse in areas.
