Environmental Education Centre

This sustainable building houses the Waste & Recycling Services Department for the City of Airdrie and is the only Canadian municipal facility of its kind.

Made possible through funding from the Municipal 2000 Partnership program,  this building features:

• Straw bale, tight envelope construction solar radiant in-floor heating system by Thermomax¨
• Photovoltaic electrical system by Soltek¨
• Potable water collection and filtration system
• Environmentally sound and healthy construction materials including paints & wood treatments
• Energy efficient windows by Duxton
• Recycled materials throughout
• Solar wall by Astravan Distributors Limited used to warm the fresh air for the “Life Breath” heat recovery ventilator
• Naturalized and xeriscaped green spaces
