DID YOU KNOW? The Taxation Department allows taxpayers to make automatic monthly payments for taxes, if your tax account is paid up to date (eg. if joining June, taxes for January to May of the current year must be paid plus any arrears owing), rather than a single annual payment. Please contact the Tax Department if you are unsure of your monthy payment amount or your catch-up payment amount. To sign up for the Monthly Tax Payment Plan (MTPP) please click here.
If you own a condominium, you may receive a separate Taxation Notice for your parking stall(s) or storage unit(s). These annual notices are mailed out at the end of May and are due at the end of June each year.
The property taxes citizens pay is calculated in proportion to the value of the real estate property they own. Determining the value of a property for taxation purposes is known as assessment. Assessed values are a means of fairly distributing the tax burden and ensuring that each property owner pays a fair level of tax in relation to his/her neighbour.
