June 30, 2025 – For immediate release
Airdrie, AB – The City of Airdrie is prioritizing resident safety by enforcing the new Streets Bylaw Amendment (Bylaw No. B-21/2025) approved by Council on June 17. The amendment addresses the dangerous activity of bridge jumping, which has raised serious concerns in areas including Bayside, Midtown and the Canals.
"Safety is our top priority and jumping from bridges into stormwater ponds is extremely risky," said Mayor Peter Brown. "The depth of these ponds are fluctuating constantly – they are not intended for recreational use and the water is untreated."
Despite clear signage warning against such activities, bridge jumping has continued, raising concerns about the safety of residents, particularly youth. The City will start enforcing fines, effective immediately, for unsafe activities like jumping from bridges, with penalties extending to parents and guardians of offenders.
