May 26, 2026 / For Immediate Release
AIRDRIE, AB – The City of Airdrie is encouraging residents to get moving this June as the community joins the ParticipACTION Community Challenge, a national initiative that inspires Canadians to be active while competing for the title of Canada’s Most Active Community and a $100,000 grand prize to support local sport and physical activity initiatives.
The challenge runs June 1 to 30, 2026, with communities across Canada contributing through active group registration, logged physical activity and participation numbers in local programs and events.
“This challenge encourages people of all ages and abilities to be active in ways that work for them, while showcasing the wide range of programs, events and opportunities available in Airdrie,” said Mayor Heather Spearman.
Residents can take part in two ways:
• Register an active group and log activity throughout June
• Participate in local ParticipACTION Community Challenge programs and events, with participation logged by organizations
Organizations that support sport and physical activity are also encouraged to participate by logging attendance in their programs, initiatives and events, helping to boost Airdrie’s overall score.
To launch the challenge, residents are invited to attend the ParticipACTION Community Challenge Kickoff Event on Saturday, May 31 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Genesis Place. Community members who create a ParticipACTION account at the event will receive free wristband admission for the day.
Residents and organizations can learn how to participate, explore events and register active groups at airdrie.ca/communitychallenge.
ParticipACTION will announce 40 finalist communities following the June challenge, with the winners expected to be named in July.
