AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – Today, Mayor Peter Brown officially opened the City of Airdrie’s Genesis Place phase III. Representatives from the Province of Alberta and Rocky View County participated in the grand opening.
“I am so proud of the community effort that went into fundraising for this tremendous addition to Genesis Place,” said Mayor Peter Brown. “Designed to meet the needs of our rapidly growing city, phase III provides more options for ice users and spectators.”
Phase three includes two NHL size arenas, 250 person seating capacity per rink, multiple conference rooms and a generous foyer to host events.
“Phase III completes the plan for Genesis Place,” says Michelle Lock, Director, Community Services, City of Airdrie. “It is now a true multi-use facility that the community can enjoy for many years to come.”
Genesis Place phase III was built at a cost of $20.2 mm with 50 per cent ($10 mm) of the funding coming from the Alberta Municipal Infrastructure Program. Rocky View County provided $2.2 mm and the Airdrie Regional Recreation Enhancement Society (ARRES) raised $2.4 mm.
