AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – On Thursday, November 14 at 22:10 hours (10:10 p.m.) the Airdrie Fire Department responded to the report of a possible structure fire located at #3 Stonegate Drive NW.
On arrival, fire crews found alarm bells ringing in a large, single story commercial strip mall with extensive water flowing out from under the door of a locked utility/electrical room at the rear of the structure.
Firefighters gained entry into the utility/electrical room and discovered that a fire had been burning but was quickly extinguished by the buildings sprinkler system. In order to limit further water damage, the water supply to the system was shut down.
Crews then conducted a thorough search of the complex to ensure that no occupants were inside and a thermal imaging camera was used to determine if the fire had extended to any adjoining businesses.
Damage estimates and cause of the fire remain under investigation by the Fire Prevention Bureau and Airdrie RCMP.
There were no injuries to report. A total of four pieces of apparatus and 12 firefighters were on scene.
