AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – The City of Airdrie celebrated the Bert Church Live Theatre facility expansion by hosting our community and government partners at an appreciation event on Thursday, November 28.
The expansion includes dedicated community support spaces such as a separate stand-alone entrance and foyer, a box office, coat check, lobby, washrooms, multi-purpose space that can be utilized to stage rental events and smaller more intimate performances, and a dedicated dressing/greenroom for professional artists.
“The Bert Church Theatre expansion completes the major infrastructure projects that we have put in place over the past few years,” said Mayor Peter Brown. “The facilities at Bert Church Theatre enhance and enable the local live theatre scene, adding to all the amenities we offer our residents right here in Airdrie.”
The facility expansion funding includes $3,106,900 from the Municipal Sustainability Initiative (MSI), Municipal Affairs, Government of Alberta and a $500,000 grant from the Canadian Cultural Spaces Fund, Canadian Heritage, Government of Canada. The City of Airdrie and Rocky View Schools Division shared the costs of enhancements to the theatre proper (new theatre seats, stage, and dimmer rack). A number of our theatre partners are fundraising for specific enhancements, including a baby grand piano, backline equipment and hardware to hang public art.
