2014 census starts April 16 – www.airdrie.ca/census

April 15, 2014 / For Immediate Release

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – Residents are asked to count themselves in this year as the 2014 census gets underway on April 16, 2014. The City of Airdrie receives up to $274 in provincial and federal grants for each resident counted because grants are based on population counts – the more accurate the count, the more dollars the City receives to provide services citizens need.

Pink door hanger

A pink door hanger with a unique PIN will be placed on every residence door in the city. Residents can use the unique PIN in combination with their home address to complete the census online at www.airdrie.ca/census. Online entries are automatically entered for a chance to win a Genesis Place family pass. For those who can’t complete it online, census workers will visit homes and collect the information.

2013 Census results

Airdrie’s 2013 population: 49,560 residents or an 8.42 per cent growth rate, compared to a growth rate of 5.92 per cent in 2012. For more information see airdrie.ca or Census Fact sheets at http://www.airdrie.ca/getDocument.cfm?id=2154.

Planning for the future depends on accurate population growth stats

In additional to grant money from other levels of government, decisions regarding future transportation networks, the locations of schools, parks, utilities and fire protection facilities are based, to a large extent, on population growth statistics collected in the municipal census. Completing the online census is an easy way for residents to contribute to their community – today and tomorrow.
