Airdrie Economic Development earns marketing award

April 17, 2014 / For Immediate Release

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – At the recent Economic Developers Alberta (EDA) awards, the City of Airdrie’s Economic Development team was honoured for its work promoting Airdrie.

Airdrie Economic Development received a Marketing Alberta Award in the Special Events, Programs or Campaigns category for its Take Your Business to New Heights Promotional Campaign.

The campaign, which was launched last fall, positions Airdrie as the “best place to land your business” and is aimed at attracting new business and investment to the community. The multi-faceted campaign included a variety of marketing materials and advertisements at Calgary International Airport and billboards along the QEII focused on the business traveller. A social media strategy targeted at current Airdrie business owners was also employed.

“We work hard to develop strategies to promote Airdrie in new and creative ways, so it’s great to be recognized for our efforts,” says Kent Rupert, Team Leader. “We are really proud of this campaign because we think the creative concept fits Airdrie’s youthful and energetic community so well, plus it hits on Airdrie’s key selling features. It’s a concept that is easily embraced and we can apply it to a variety of mediums from billboards to postcards to social media posts.”

The creative concept for the campaign was developed by the City’s Corporate Communications team, and the two teams collaborated on the design of materials for, and implementation of, the campaign. “We are fortunate to have very talented people working at the City,” says Rupert. “Many economic development agencies hire external consultants or agencies for their promotional campaigns. It’s very rewarding to know we did this all ourselves.”

The award was presented on April 10 by EDA President Richard Pauls at the Minster’s Dinner and Awards Banquet during EDA’s annual conference for economic development professionals.

The mandate of Airdrie Economic Development is to take a strategic approach to attracting investment and supporting local businesses to foster a sustainable economy.
