Residential property inspections underway

April 22, 2014 / For Immediate Release

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – The City of Airdrie Assessment department has begun its annual re-inspection cycle of Airdrie properties.

Airdrie residents may receive a knock on their door sometime between May and August. As part of the re-inspection, exterior photographs may be taken.

“The City assesses residential, commercial, and industrial properties to determine their estimated market value annually,” explained Larry Laverty, Team Leader of Assessment. “This value is then used in the calculation of property taxes. While not all properties are inspected each year, we want residents to be aware that they may see an assessor in their neighbourhood. All City assessors will have City of Airdrie identification.”

Assessors may be looking to assess new construction, renovations, building permits or property that has recently sold, or they may be undertaking a general re-assessment of a neighbourhood.

If residents are not home and more information is required, the assessor will leave a re-inspection form in order to instruct residents on how to provide the information required by the assessor.

Anyone requiring more information about property assessments can contact the City Assessment Department at 403.948.8855.
