Airdrie Fire Department’s home safety program complete
May 9, 2014 / For Immediate Release
AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – During the month of April 2014, Airdrie Fire Department delivered the spring home safety program in three districts of the city – Luxstone Cr SW, Acacia Dr SE and CR SE along with 400 Block Spring Haven Co SE.
The home safety program sees on-shift fire crews providing door-to-door visits with residents completing home safety checks, discussing safety items throughout the home, as well as checking and installing smoke alarms and/or batteries.
“We visited 80 single family homes, and contact was made with 60 residents. In 59 per cent of the homes when residents invited us in for safety checks, a direct safety impact was made as residents changed something in their home, like their smoke alarm batteries, as a result of the check,” says Linda Masson, Deputy Chief. “We’d like to thank those residents who welcomed fire crews and took time from their busy day to participate in this important initiative.”
The home safety program is a vital part of the fire and life safety programing presented in the community by Airdrie Fire Department.
