40 Avenue east and west now open
November 19, 2014 / For Immediate Release
AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – The first stages of Airdrie’s next major east/west corridor were officially opened today. The east section of 40 Avenue will connect 8 Street to Reynolds Gate while the west section will run from 8 Street west to Windsong Boulevard.
“Opening this section of 40 Avenue is an important first step toward the bigger picture of providing another major east/west corridor for our residents,” says Mayor Peter Brown.
“The next stage will be for 40 Avenue to cross the CP Rail tracks and connect to Main Street. This project is currently under review by Council and if approved will be initiated in 2015. The long range strategy is for 40 Avenue to connect with and cross the QEII highway,” says Bob Neale, Team Leader, Engineering Services.
As well, it is proposed for 40 Avenue to be extended west to 24 Street to meet growth pressures and provide transportation capacity in west Airdrie.
