Spray park upgrades begin

June 1, 2015 / For Immediate Release

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – Upgrades to the Mattamy Homes Spray Park, located in Chinook Winds Park, are now underway and will include shading, fencing and picnic tables for the 2015 season. An expansion to the spray features will be ready for the 2016 season.

“The spray park and its supporting infrastructure were built to accommodate a future expansion,” says Archie Lang, Manager of Parks and Public Works. “With the high usage of the spray park we’ve seen in the last few years and the growth in Airdrie, we are at the point where we’re ready for that expansion.”

When the spray park opens for the season on June 15, residents will be able to enjoy three of the five kite shades being installed now. The remaining two larger kite shades and 12 picnic tables will be installed by mid-July. Fencing surrounding the park area, which will be a mixture of chain link and ornamental fencing, will add to the health and security of the children using the park and security for the park features when it is closed.

The next expansion to the spray park will add 475 square metres to the area and three large new water features including a play structure with four slides, a discovery stream with toys and a toddler water table. Behind the scenes, the expansion will also include a new holding tank and pump to support the additional water features.

“Construction to expand the footprint of the spray park, which will double the size of the current space, is set to begin September 8,” says Archie Lang. “We scheduled construction in the fall to ensure residents didn’t have to go a summer without the spray park.”

Residents will be able to enjoy the expanded features in the summer of 2016. The Mattamy Homes Spray Park officially opened in July 2012.
