2015 official census results
Slower growth in the City than 2014

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – The City of Airdrie’s population continues to grow, with the official 2015 census result at 58,690, a 6.92 per cent growth rate, compared to 10.76 per cent last year.

The City’s population grew by 3,799 or 10.4 new residents per day, versus 5,331 total or 15 new residents per day last year. “Airdrie continues to be popular with people looking for a friendly community with lots of amenities,” says Mayor Peter Brown. “Slightly slower growth gives us an opportunity to secure the needed infrastructure and look toward the future.”

1,620 new homes were built by April 15, 2015 in Airdrie, an increase of 8.1 per cent for a total of 21,623 – this includes single family and multi-family residential options. Prairie Springs, the area between Main Street and 8 Street SW and 1 Avenue NW and Railway Gate (this area near Sobeys is considered part of downtown) and Windsong experienced the greatest growth.

In 2015, 60.74 per cent of residents completed the survey online, up slightly from 2014 when 58.84 per cent of residents completed the survey online.

“Each year, more residents complete the census online; which helps keep the cost of administrating the census down,” says Sharon Pollyck, Manager of Legislative Services and Corporate Communications. “Completing the census helps the community to maximize grant dollar applications.”

Complete census findings will be posted online at airdrie.ca this fall.
