City receives prestigious communications award

August 14, 2015 / For Immediate Release

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – Jill Iverson, a member of the City of Airdrie’s Corporate Communications team, was recently awarded a prestigious 2015 Gold Quill Award of Excellence from the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). Iverson received the award, along with the Silver Leaf Award of Excellence from the Canadian chapter, for her work on the city’s curbside organics recycling program.

The communications strategy and execution was designed to help the curbside organics program succeed by ensuring residents received the information they required to be active and enthusiastic participants in the program. In the first year of the program, four million kilograms of organics were diverted from the landfill.

“I’m honoured to receive these awards; they are the icing on the cake,” says Iverson. “However, the most rewarding part is seeing the success of the program in the community due to the collaborative efforts of the Waste and Recycling and Corporate Communications teams."

“Jill worked hard to ensure that Waste and Recycling’s business objectives were supported by a thorough and strategic communications plan,” says Lynda Phelan, Team Leader, Corporate Communications. “We are very proud of Jill and the teams’ achievements.”

IABC’s Gold Quill Awards recognize excellence in strategic communication worldwide, and is acknowledged as one of the most prestigious awards programs in the industry. Twenty four Gold Quill awards of excellence were awarded world-wide in 2015.
