Council provides input for Provincial Budget

September 9, 2015 / For Immediate Release

AIRDRIE, AB – Airdrie City Council is providing input for the 2015/16 Alberta Provincial Budget in response to an invitation from Alberta Finance Minister Joe Ceci. The Finance Minister invited municipalities to provide input via written submissions by September 14, 2015 at 4:30 p.m.

“As a Council we have identified the specific priorities, tailored to the needs of our high growth community, for the Alberta Government to consider when developing the upcoming budget,” says Mayor Peter Brown. “That includes provincial grants necessary for roads and interchanges, policing, social services, transportation and health services.”

Providing input into Budget 2015 and Budget 2016 from Airdrie’s perspective will help to support the need for both stability and certainty in funding programs for municipalities. This is especially important given the limited ability municipalities have to raise funds outside of the property tax system.

In the past, the City of Airdrie participated in both provincial and federal budget input processes through our involvement with the AUMA joint submission. This is the first time Airdrie City Council has been asked to make a submission directly to the Government of Alberta. The 2015 Provincial budget will be released on October 26.
