Volunteers needed for 2018 Alberta Winter Games bid committee

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – The City of Airdrie is calling for volunteer members of the 2018 Alberta Winter Games bid committee. The committee will prepare a bid package and may be required to host a facilities tour for a Selection Committee from the Alberta Sport, Recreation, and Parks & Wildlife Foundation.

The City of Airdrie recognizes the benefits of hosting sporting events within our community, previously hosting the 2009 Alberta 55 Plus Summer Games and the 2014 Alberta Summer Games. We would like your support in applying for the 2018 Alberta Winter Games, which will bring the following to Airdrie:

  • 2,700 athletes, coaches, officials
  • Families to support athletes
  • 2,800 volunteers
  • 18 - 20 sporting events/opening and closing ceremonies
  • An arts and cultural component
  • Economic benefits to Airdrie
  • Sport development and opportunity

Key factors in a successful bid for the 2018 Alberta Winter Games include creating an inviting atmosphere with a focus on the Athlete’s Village, existing facilities and venues, accommodation, food services and partnerships with sporting groups and sponsors.
