New reservoir/pump station ensures water needs for future residents

November 4, 2015 / For Immediate Release

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – Monday, November 2 marked the grand opening of a new water reservoir/pump station located in the community of Windsong.

“This important new infrastructure is a reflection of our well-managed growth by meeting the needs of the current and projected population to 80,000,” says Mayor Peter Brown. The project aligns with Council priorities for sustainable growth management, economic prosperity, environmental health, social well-being and fiscal stewardship.”

The new water reservoir/pump station provides a reliable water supply that adds to the current water supply network as well as providing back up for the existing main reservoir and pump station.

“Prior to completion of this project, the City was approaching the threshold of reliable potable water delivery within the current infrastructure configuration, says Bob Neale, Team Leader, Engineering. “The new reservoir/pump station will supply an additional population of 30,000 and full build out within the pre-annexation boundary.”

The 600mm water supply line installed in 2012, runs from the City of Calgary’s system northward along Range Road 11 and 8 Street terminating at the new reservoir/pump station and provides the primary feed to the new reservoir.

Construction costs for the 10 mega litre water reservoir are approximately $11 million.
