Airdrie named one of Alberta's Top 12 Great Communities for Business
November 19, 2015 / For Immediate Release
AIRDRIE, ALBERTA - Airdrie has been named one of Alberta's Top 12 Great Communities for Business by Alberta Venture magazine.
“We are proud of the business community that has developed in Airdrie and being in the top 12 communities for business just supports all the efforts that the business community, Chamber of Commerce and the City of Airdrie does to ensure Airdrie is the place to do business,” says Kent Rupert, Airdrie Economic Development’s Team Leader.
The November issue of Alberta Venture magazine highlights communities that have created an attractive and vibrant environment for private-sector business enterprises. Airdrie businesses, residents, and government have worked to create a business-friendly and barrier-free atmosphere for investors and business start-ups of all kinds.
Airdrie’s business friendly attitude translates into action, through programs such as the made-for-Airdrie entrepreneurial program, SMARTStart. This unique training program provides real-world business skills and access to tailor-made advice that provides a value-add to new businesses. SMARTStart is a unique collaboration between Airdrie Economic Development, the Airdrie Chamber of Commerce and Community Futures Centre West.
“There’s no single thing that makes a community a great place to do business,” says Michael Ganley, editor of Alberta Venture. “It depends on the type of business and the natural strengths and weaknesses of the community. But one thing they all have in common is that they’ve made a conscious decision to support and encourage business because they recognize their importance.”
Airdrie is not new to being ranked high within Alberta communities for their business-friendly environment. For the third year running, Airdrie and the surrounding area were recognized by the Canadian Federation of Independent Business as the number one place to start a business in Canada.
“Airdrie has a great market and a very supportive local business community, rating their satisfaction with doing business in Airdrie at 91 per cent,” says Rupert.
