AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – On Saturday, December 12, Mayor Peter Brown officially opened the City of Airdrie’s first transit terminal in South Airdrie, located on Main Street south of Airdrie Honda.
“This terminal, and our growing connectivity to the communities surrounding Airdrie, reflect our city’s growth and demand for service from residents,” said Mayor Peter Brown. “We have a long-term vision for an efficient public transit network in Airdrie, and our investment in public transit reflects this goal.”
The South Transit Terminal includes an off-street bus platform, large heated transit shelter for customers, operator facilities and parking for approximately 150 vehicles.
“The opening of the South Transit Terminal outlines our commitment to improving the customer experience of using public transit,” says Chris MacIsaac, Transit Coordinator, City of Airdrie. “The new terminal will provide more seamless connections between Intercity Express and local services and will provide our customers with a permanent park and ride location.”
The South Transit Terminal project included the construction of the Transit Terminal and the extension of Main Street and utilities at an estimated cost of $3.5MM.
