January 29, 2016/ Structure Fire / AFD Response Details
January 29, 2016
AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – On Friday, January 29, 2016 at 2:39 a.m., the Airdrie Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 100 block of Baysprings Court SW.
Upon arrival, fire crews found two unoccupied (under construction) single family homes, fully engulfed in flames.
A third home, to the north of the rapidly growing fire, was initially threatened but firefighters were quick to cover the exposure with water and firefighting foam, limiting further fire extension and damage.
Due to the size and severity of the blaze, the fire department initiated a defensive fire attack; meaning crews remained on the exterior, applying large amounts of water through elevated master streams and handheld hose lines.
Crews on scene were further challenged by an icy and slippery fire ground. After approximately two hours, the fire was brought under control.
The Fire Prevention Bureau currently remains on scene conducting an investigation to determine cause and damage estimates.
Five pieces of apparatus and fourteen firefighters attended the incident.
There are no injuries to report.
