FCSS awards programs special project funding for 2016

March 29, 2016

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – At their regular meeting on Monday, March 21, 2016, Airdrie City Council endorsed the recommendation of the Community Services Advisory Board to allocate up to $248,872 of the Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) Program to preventative social programs as one time Special Projects.

“I’m pleased to announce that Council allocated their support for local preventive social programs,” said Mayor Peter Brown. “In 2015, the Province has increased the funding for FCSS programs to meet the needs of our community. I, as well as other municipal leaders, have advocated for increased FCSS provincial funding for all of our communities. I would like to sincerely thank the province for recognizing the importance of FCSS funding and the value it brings to our community.”

This special funding provides organizations an opportunity to deliver innovative pilot projects as well as build capacity within their organizations. This one-time Special Project Funding supports FCSS’s focus of taking preventive steps that enhance strengths, skills and abilities of individuals, families and community. Council adopted poverty prevention, strengthening youth well-being and social and community inclusion funding priorities based on consultation with community funded agencies and the provincial mandate.

Clay Aragon, Team Leader, Community Development and Social Planning and Cathy O’Donoghue, Social Planning Coordinator spoke at the council meeting about the funding filters used for the FCSS mandate of prevention and the funding allocation recommended by the Community Services Advisory Board.

The Airdrie Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) Program is a funding partnership between the Government of Alberta and the City of Airdrie. FCSS is designed to fund community social programs that enhance the social well-being of families and communities.
