April 29 - Live Emergency Operation at City Hall
April 19, 2016
Airdrie, Alberta. On Friday April 29, 2016, Airdrie City Hall will be the site of a full-scale emergency exercise. The purpose of this event is to test the City and local emergency response agencies’ emergency management plans, rigorously assess its effectiveness and adjust the plan for readiness in the event of an actual emergency.
The emergency response agencies involved in the scenario will also evaluate how they fulfil their roles and perform their duties in a situation that closely reflects the challenges of a real emergency. The exercise has been in the planning stages for several months, and all agencies involved have participated in multiple table-top exercises over the past year.
For the exercise to be effective, the realities of an actual emergency must be duplicated as closely as possible. City Hall will be closed to the public for the entire day. There will be emergency personnel and vehicles on site and loud noises and sirens. This exercise will involve approximately 200 participants including RCMP, Airdrie Fire Department, City of Airdrie Emergency Management Agency, City of Airdrie volunteers, AHS Ambulance Service, observers from Alberta Emergency Management, government offices and other agencies. This use of resources will not interfere with our daily police operations.
The event will run Friday, April 29, 2016 from 8 a.m., beginning with briefings and preparation, until its conclusion at approximately 6 p.m. City Hall will be closed for the entire day.
For customers who need to do business with City Hall that day, no in-person financial transactions will be available at City Hall. Please use MyAirdrie at airdrie.ca/MyAirdrie to conduct financial transactions with the City. In addition, representatives from the following areas will be located at Bert Church Theatre beginning at noon on April 29:
Building Inspections; Planning; Engineering ; Utilities and Taxation
Normal financial transactions that occur at our Municipal Enforcement/RCMP Building, Bert Church Theatre and Genesis Place will be business as usual.
During the course of this exercise, if a real emergency occurs within the City of Airdrie, please do not hesitate to contact 911 as you normally would.
