Vehicle Collides Into Commercial Building

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – On Thursday, May 12, at 5:32 p.m. the Airdrie Fire Department responded to the report of vehicle colliding into a commercial building located at 8 Street and 1 Avenue NW.

When fire crews arrived on scene they found that a car had crashed through a large, front window of the Shoppers Drug Mart. As a precaution, all staff and customers in the store at the time of the incident were evacuated.

Firefighters located the driver and lone occupant of the car inside the building and after a quick initial check for injuries the patient was transferred to the care of Alberta Health Services for further assessment and treatment.

Crews completed a thorough evaluation of the area damaged to confirm the structural integrity of the building. Once deemed safe, the vehicle was removed.

RCMP attended the scene to conduct their investigation.

Cause and damage estimates remain under investigation.

Four pieces of apparatus and eleven firefighters were on scene.
