July 5, 2016
AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – The City of Airdrie’s population continues to grow, with the official 2016 census result at 61,842, a 5.37 per cent growth rate, compared to 6.45 per cent last year.
The City’s population grew by 3,152 or 8.6 new residents per day, versus 3,799 or 10.4 new residents per day last year. “We expected to see a smaller increase in population given the current economic slowdown,” says Mayor Peter Brown. “Airdrie continues to be a desirable place to live, and we remain committed to providing our residents with high quality service and the amenities they desire.”
1,404 new homes were built by April 7, 2016 in Airdrie, an increase of 6.49 per cent for a total of 23,027 – this includes single family and multi-family residential options. South Windsong, Ravenswood and Bayside experienced the greatest growth.
In 2016, 61.4 per cent of residents completed the survey online, up slightly from 2015 when 60.74 per cent of residents completed the survey online.
“Each year, more residents complete the census online; which helps keep the cost of administrating the census down,” says Sharon Pollyck, Manager of Legislative Services and Corporate Communications. “Completing the census helps the community to maximize grant dollar applications.”
Complete census findings will be posted online at airdrie.ca this fall.
