December 11, 2016 Structure Fire
December 14, 2016/ For Immediate Release
AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – On Sunday, December 11, 2016 at 10:51 p.m., the Airdrie Fire Department (AFD) responded to the report of structure fire located on Kingston Crescent SE.
On arrival, fire crews found a fully involved vehicle burning on the front driveway of a two storey residential home. The blaze had damaged exterior siding of the residence and was impinging on the door of the attached garage, threatening to extend to the interior.
Crews were informed that all residents of the home had safely evacuated prior to their arrival on scene. To ensure the safety of responders, gas and power were temporarily shut off to the home.
Firefighters launched an offensive strategy using a remote nozzle which allowed them to effectively manage the growth of the fire and quickly bring it under control.
Crews used a thermal imaging camera to determine if the fire had extended into the structure. No extension was found and the immediate area was ventilated. Once ventilation efforts were completed, air monitoring was conducted to determine possible carbon monoxide levels.
The cause of the fire and final damage estimates remain under investigation by the Fire Prevention Bureau.
There were no injuries to report.
Five pieces of apparatus and fourteen firefighters were on scene.
