AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – The City of Airdrie’s population continues to grow, with the official 2017 census result at 64,922, a 4.98 per cent growth rate, compared to 5.37 per cent last year.

The City’s population grew by 3,080 or 8.4 new residents per day, versus 3,152 or 8.6 new residents per day last year. “Our growth rate remains steady as we continue to welcome new residents to our community,” says Mayor Peter Brown. “New residents add to the richness of our community and we invite them to enjoy the amenities we have here in Airdrie.”

From April 2016 to April 2017 1,261 new homes were added in Airdrie, an increase of 5.48 per cent for a total of 24,288. This includes single family and multi-family residential options with the communities of South Windsong, Willowbrook and Baysprings experiencing the greatest growth.

In 2017, Airdrie residents overwhelmingly embraced providing their census information online. Online completion jumped up six per cent in 2017 with 67.42 per cent of residents completing the survey online, a dramatic increase from 61.4 per cent in 2016.

“Our residents were very diligent in completing the census online and we are thrilled to surpass our target goal for online completion this year; helping to keep our collection costs low,” says Kari Kitiuk, Team Leader, Legislative Services. “With accurate census numbers we can maximize our grant dollar applications.”

Complete census findings will be posted online at airdrie.ca this fall.
