Art in Transit program accepting submissions

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – The City of Airdrie’s Department of Community Development is looking to local and regional artists to add to the cultural and artistic atmosphere of the City. Artists are encouraged to submit an original piece of artwork to the Art In Transit program that reflects Airdrie’s culture and identity.

“In pursuit of the City of Airdrie’s Cultural Policy, Community Development in partnership with Airdrie Transit are excited to receive creative submissions from artists,” explains Clay Aragon, Team Leader of Community Development and Social Planning. “By incorporating creative elements into the transit shelters, we are able to enhance the City’s vibrancy and in celebrate Airdrie’s culture and heritage.”

Twenty-four applicants will be selected to have their public artwork featured in Airdrie Transit shelters. The program is intended to run from 2017 – 2021 with artwork being featured for up to three years after installation.

A community based jury will review artwork submissions and select 24 finalists. Winners will receive $400 for their artwork to be displayed publicly.

Final judging will occur in late September 2017. Artists must submit two low resolution images of their artwork. Successful applications will be required to submit a high resolution image of their artwork.

Artwork submissions must adhere to the following criteria:

  • One dimensional
  • Fit within a 24” wide x 36” tall frame
  • Reflect Airdrie’s aspiration of connecting people to place
  • Celebrate Airdrie’s diversity and inclusivity
  • Reflect Airdrie’s identity through culture, nature and human heritage
