Airdrie, Alberta – On Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 11:32 a.m. the Airdrie Fire Department responded to a structure fire located on Canals Close SW.
When fire crews arrived they found that a fire, which initially started on an attached wooden deck, had extended into the interior of the home.
Prior to the arrival of fire department, a resident home at the time of the blaze, had made his way safely outside.
Firefighters were able to quickly bring the blaze under control. Once portions of the lower level ceiling and walls had been opened, crews used a thermal imaging camera (TIC) to ensure the fire had been completely extinguished.
There were no injuries to report.
Preliminary damage to the structure and contents has been estimated to be $150,000.
The Fire Prevention Bureau (FPB) has determined the cause of the fire to be careless disposal of smoking material.
Five pieces of apparatus and fourteen firefighters were on scene
***The Airdrie Fire Department reminds the public that smoking materials must be disposed of safely and properly. They should never be placed into containers of plant material or thrown from vehicles.
