Nominate an Airdrie community volunteer today

Nov. 9 / For Immediate Release

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – Do you know someone who has made a difference through volunteerism? If so, the City of Airdrie needs your help. The City is encouraging residents to nominate their friends and neighbours who are making a difference in the community for a 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award. These annual awards acknowledge outstanding contributions of Airdrie’s volunteers.

“Each year, thousands of Airdrie residents take the time out of their busy schedules to volunteer with organizations that contribute to making our city a great community,” says Kim Harris, Community Developer. “The City of Airdrie feels that these efforts should be recognized, and it is for this reason that the City would like to encourage residents to nominate the outstanding volunteers in our community."

Residents can nominate a volunteer by filling out an online application form at www.airdrie.ca/VOTYA.

Award categories include:

  • Leader of Tomorrow Award: Recognizes Airdrie youth (11 to 18 years) who have shown leadership in the city of Airdrie through his/her volunteer involvement.
  • Ambassador Award: Recognizes an Airdrie citizen (proprietor) or a business entity that has made an outstanding contribution in promoting the city of Airdrie as a place for community and opportunity through volunteerism and philanthropy.
  • Soul of Airdrie Award: Recognizes an Airdrie citizen who has made an outstanding contribution as a volunteer in the fields of art and culture, athletics, social and community services, and/or governance. This individual demonstrates a passion for helping others become resilient contributing members of the community.
  • Volunteer Advocate Award: Recognizes a not-for-profit organization, a volunteer-comprised grassroots committee and/or a community group that has demonstrated community leadership by engaging citizens through volunteerism.

Nomination deadline is Jan. 15, 2018. Any individual, organization, association or business in Airdrie may be nominated for these awards. Previous award recipients are exempt from future nominations. However, previously nominated individuals may be nominated again. To learn more about the nomination criteria, please visit www.airdrie.ca/VOTYA. Winners will be announced in May 2018.
