City of Airdrie gets ready to welcome Rogers Hometown Hockey

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – The City of Airdrie is excited to welcome Rogers Hometown Hockey Dec. 16 and 17 at Genesis Place. The event will take place outside at Genesis Place (north and west parking lots) and will include live entertainment, NHL alumni visits and a live broadcast on the big screens hosted by Ron MacLean and Tara Slone as the Calgary Flames take on the Vancouver Canucks Dec. 17 at 5:30 p.m. MT
Airdrie will be featured on the weekly Sunday broadcast of Rogers Hometown Hockey on Sportsnet and Sportsnet NOW. MacLean and Slone will host live on location from the Sportsnet Mobile Studio where they will highlight Airdrie’s culture, hockey history and unique stories during the pre-game, intermission and post-game show.
“The City is thrilled to welcome Ron Maclean, Tara Slone and the entire Hometown Hockey crew. The event is a great opportunity to showcase Airdrie’s amazing culture and rich history,” says Mayor Peter Brown. “In addition to showing Canada the pride we have in our City, it is a fun free event for residents of all ages to come together to celebrate, enjoy live entertainment and activities, and let our hockey fan spirit shine.”
To accommodate the festival, Genesis Place will experience limited parking and facility closures that include the following:
- Starting Wednesday Dec. 13, the facility’s north and west parking lots and Twin Arena and Fitness Centre entrances will be closed to accommodate festival set up.
- To access the facility between Dec. 13 and 15 patrons must park in the east parking lot (next to the Airdrie Gymnastics Centre and Bert Church LIVE Theatre). You will be able to enter through the Aquatics or Field House entrances.
- On Dec. 16 and 17, Genesis Place programs and activities (with the exception of registered swimming lessons and the Fitness Centre) will be closed to host Rogers Hometown Hockey.
- On Saturday Dec. 16 and Sunday Dec. 17 registered swimming lessons will run from 7 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The Fitness Centre will be open from 7 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
Genesis Place will resume regular business operation starting on Monday Dec. 18, 2017.
