Citizen survey results show residents satisfied with City services

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – The City of Airdrie has released the results of the 2018 Citizen Satisfaction Survey, and is pleased that residents have again expressed their satisfaction with city amenities and services.
“The Community Satisfaction Survey contributes to our work plans and aligns with the overall vision for our City. It shows us where our strengths lie and specifically what areas could be improved upon, said Mayor Peter Brown. “The stats that resonated the most for me were about how safe our residents feel living in Airdrie – 94 per cent overall and 99 per cent during the day. It’s important that the safety of our residents continues to be one of our strengths.”
“The positive feedback we continue to receive from our residents through these surveys is encouraging. The results help guide us in our planning and enable us to focus on the services and amenities that are important to our residents,” said Dorian Kachur, Manager, Strategic Business Services. “These results are also motivating for our staff, as we strive for continuous improvement in all areas of our business.”
Residents’ high level rating of overall quality of life, quality of services and managing community affairs remained strong, with significant increases, an upward trend Banister Research Ltd. has seen in most communities surveyed this year. Areas which had shown signs of pressure in recent years, efficiency of services and managing community growth and development, also showed significant increases in satisfaction.
A breakdown of satisfaction with individual services reflected high ratings, similar to those the City has received for the last number of years. Airdrie consistently yields some of the highest ratings of the approximately 45 municipalities that Banister surveys.
Respondents identified the most important issues facing Airdrie today as: infrastructure, traffic, roads, train tracks, construction (33 per cent); health care (12 per cent); and rapid growth management (8 per cent).
Additional highlights include:
- Airdrie residents continue to feel safe here - 99 per cent of residents feel safe during the daytime and 94 per cent feel safe overall.
- Airdrie Fire once again has the highest level of satisfaction ranking at 93 per cent.
- Residents are also very happy with the City’s new curbside recycling program which had a satisfaction rating of 88 per cent.
- Impressions of City staff remain positive and interactions with staff are rated high.
New this year, residents were also provided an online opportunity to provide their feedback. Although, the results from the online version of the survey are not statistically valid, due to its opt in nature, similar trends are evident between the two polls.
The survey was conducted by Banister Research Limited from January 8 to 19, 2018. A total of 400 telephone interviews and 89 web based responses were collected from Airdrie citizens 18 years of age or older. To view the full survey results, visit www.airdrie.ca/citizensurvey
