April 5, 2018/ Structure Fire / AFD Response Details
April 6, 2018/ For Immediate Release
AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – On Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 6:19 p.m. the Airdrie Fire Department responded to the report of a structure fire located in the #200 Block of Tanner Drive SE.
Upon arrival fire crews found a double detached garage in the rear of a residence fully involved in flames. Due to extreme heat and fire conditions, adjacent homes were temporarily evacuated as a safety precaution.
An exterior fire attack was initiated with additional water streams to protect nearby exposure areas. After the fire was extinguished, crews remained on scene to complete salvage and overhaul work, to ensure the fire had not extended into any other structures.
Fortis and ATCO emergency response crews shut down gas and power to the immediate area for a short time.
Firefighters completed air quality monitoring in the homes on either side of the fire scene and once deemed safe, utilities were restored and residents were allowed to return.
There were no injuries reported.
The cause of the fire and total damage estimates remain under investigation by the Fire Prevention Bureau.
Six pieces of apparatus and nineteen firefighters were on scene.
