Reported Structure Fire / AFD Response Details

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – The Airdrie Fire Department responded to report of a fire located at the rear of single story commercial mall located on 2 Avenue S.E. on Friday, April 20 at 2:39 p.m.
Upon arrival, fire crews found a fire burning in the alley behind Paul’s Pizza restaurant. The blaze involved cardboard and other combustible debris, which was surrounding a grease collection recycle container.
As a precaution, all staff and customers in the restaurant and adjacent businesses were temporarily evacuated.
Crews were able to bring the blaze under control and extinguished the fire before flames or smoke could breach the interior of the building.
Once it was determined that no smoke or fire extension had occurred, air quality in the building was monitored. When the area was deemed safe, affected businesses were re- opened.
This cause of the fire and final damage estimates are being investigated by the Fire Prevention Bureau.
Four pieces of fire apparatus and thirteen firefighters attended the incident.
There were no injuries to report.
