City partnership secures site for new facility

July 9, 2018 / For Immediate Release

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – The City of Airdrie is pleased to announce that a collaboration with Rocky View Schools and Mattamy Homes, has resulted in the purchase of land that provides a southwest Airdrie land base for future growth-related community facilities and a high school.

“We’re very pleased to announce that the City has purchased land for a future multi-purpose recreation facility,” says Mayor Peter Brown. “This land purchase will allow us to move forward on a very important and exciting project that will bring tremendous value to our community when completed. We are looking forward to hearing from community groups and citizens.”

By securing this land, the City is demonstrating commitment to City Council’s recently endorsed Strategic Priorities, which emphasize the expansion of key community facilities, including a future multi-use recreation facility.

Rocky View Schools has purchased sufficient land to build a high school to meet the projected enrollment growth in the southwest Airdrie. The land for the school is adjacent to the land purchased by the city.

The land, which is located west of South Windsong and south of the future Cobblestone development, was officially purchased last Tuesday (July 3). Next steps involve joint planning for the development and servicing of the overall land parcel.

Conceptual site planning to determine the specific facilities and amenities that community deems are a priority will commence in 2019. The planning process will include a variety of public engagement opportunities for citizens and stakeholder organizations.
