January 28, 2019/ Structure Fire/ AFD Response Details

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – On Mon., Jan. 28, 2019 at 12:30 a.m., the Airdrie Fire Department responded to the report of a structure fire located on Kingsland Place SE.

Fire crews arrived on scene to find heavy smoke conditions on the main level of a two-story residential home.

A family of four, home at the time of the incident, heard their smoke alarms ringing and safely evacuated to the street prior to the fire department arriving.

The family’s pet cat was found inside the home and was safely rescued by firefighters unharmed.

The fire, located in the kitchen area, melted a domestic water line which assisted to keep the fire in check. Firefighters extinguished what remained of the blaze before isolating the water supply to the home.

Firefighters thoroughly checked adjacent walls and ceiling with their Thermal Imaging Camera to ensure the fire had not extended. The air quality was also monitored for carbon monoxide levels.

Residents will be temporarily displaced from their home due to significant damage from heat, smoke and water.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Fire Prevention Bureau. There were no injuries to report. Six pieces of apparatus and fifteen firefighters were on scene.
