A winner is crowned in the Sirens Lip Sync Showdown

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – The results of the friendly competition between Team Blue (Municipal Enforcement and RCMP) and Team Red (Airdrie Fire Department and Alberta Health Services EMS) are finally in. And the winner of the Sirens Lip Sync Showdown is … Team Red.

“We are very proud of our team and the win feels good, but the real winners are the residents of Airdrie who benefited from the toys, food and blood donations both teams collected,” says Kevin Weinberger, Fire Chief/Manager of Protective Services.

For the past three months, both teams have been “battling for Airdrie” by going above and beyond their daily duties to support three great causes in the Airdrie community.

The first challenge was a tight race between the two teams, as they both collected toys and raised money to support the Airdrie Lioness Club’s Christmas Hamper Program. Team Red drew first blood by claiming victory in November. Team Red collected 840 toys worth $10,929 and Team Blue fell just short collecting 689 toys worth $10,338. Team Red also claimed victory during the Charity Hockey Game to support the Showdown at Ron Ebbesen Arena in late November.

Team Blue evened things out by winning the December challenge in a landslide. Both teams collected food donations to support the Airdrie Food Bank. Team Blue collected over 7,493 pounds of food, while Team Red collected 3,177 pounds.

With the Showdown evened up at one apiece, the January challenge was the deciding event. The teams did their best to donate blood to support Canadian Blood Services by filling both Airdrie donor clinics and encouraging residents of Airdrie to donate anywhere in southern Alberta to support either team.

Team Red closed out the Showdown by taking home this challenge. Team Blue provided 56 donations and signed up eight new donors, while Team Red provided 110 donations and signed up 15 new donors.

The real fun takes place over the next two months as Team Red will select a song for Team Blue to lip sync to and they begin filming their music video. Stay tuned for the announcement when the video is ready.

Both teams would like to thank Airdrie for the overwhelming support of all three causes during the Showdown.
