April 23, 2019/ Structure Fire/ AFD Response Details

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – On Tues., April 23 at 4:36 p.m. the Airdrie Fire Department responded to the report of a structure fire located on the 700 block of Luxstone Square SW.

Fire crews arrived at the scene to find heavy smoke conditions showing on the main level of a small two-storey home.

When firefighters made entry they were met with extreme heat and smoke conditions throughout the residence. A primary search of all levels of the home was completed to determine that no one remained located inside.

Firefighting efforts continued until the blaze was brought under control. Walls and the ceiling in the kitchen area were opened and a thermal imaging camera used to ensure that the fire had not extended into adjacent walls and ceiling.

Due to significant damage caused by the fire the home remains uninhabitable and the residents will be temporarily displaced.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Fire Prevention Bureau. Preliminary damage estimates remain undetermined.

One firefighter was treated on scene for a minor injury and was later transported to the Urgent Care Center for further assessment.

Five pieces of apparatus and fourteen firefighters were on scene.
